Arnold Palmer (Book) by Arnold Palmer

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=joeyoconnor-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=1584793309&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

He's got 61 PGA Tour victories to his credit, is a highly sought-after spokesperson, has authored several books and designed a few golf courses in his day, not to mention he pilots his own plane, but to millions of fans he's not Mr. Palmer, not even Arnold. He's simply Arnie—the world-famous guy next door. His achievements on the green may have made him a celebrated athlete, but it's his approachability and down-home humility that have secured his status as one of the most admired people in and out of sports. In this, his first illustrated, autobiographical book, he shares the adventures of his extraordinary life in the same accessible, entertaining voice that's already made him such a familiar figure. Arnold Palmer: Memories, Stories, and Memorabilia from a Life On and Off the Course gives readers the opportunity to spend some time with Arnie and enjoy firsthand his fascinating anecdotes both personal and professional. These tales alone would be enough to entice any golf fan, but the book features not only rare photos from Arnie's private collection but also removable facsimiles of 12 collectibles from his archives: golf souvenirs, letters, and pictures, all displayed in glassine envelopes. The next best thing to a scrapbook handcrafted by the man himself, for fans of the legendary golfer it's the gift equivalent of a hole in one.

about the author
ARNOLD PALMER is commander-in-chief of “Arnie's Army,” the world's largest noncombative force. Among his 61 PGA Tour victories, Palmer won the Masters four times, the U.S. Open once, and the British Open twice. A gifted athlete, Palmer is also an accomplished entrepreneur, a skilled aviator, a prominent advertising spokesperson, a talented golf course designer, and the author of four books about the game. He resides in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=joeyoconnor-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=0810932490&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Ever since Jack Nicklaus, the greatest golfer in the history of the game, unveiled his first golf course design in 1970, he has been winning kudos for his visually striking layouts and challenging yet playable holes. More than 235 Nicklaus courses have sprung up around the globe, earning the Golden Bear Golf Digest's designation in 1999 as the world's leading active designer. At least 30 Nicklaus courses have been ranked in various Top 100 lists, from Shoal Creek in Birmingham, with its sharply etched bunkers and rock-strewn creeks, to Castle Pines outside Denver, carved through a mile-high site that affords stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Here, Nicklaus reveals how he builds his courses and shares the secret of how to "read" a golf hole and play it well. With tips from the master on how to plot out strategy on the fairway, this book—with its superb course photos, plans, and diagrams—will be the season's top holiday gift for any golfer.

Classic Golf (Book)

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=joeyoconnor-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=0810949830&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Following on the success of his Classic Baseball, America's greatest sports photographer is back with a book that chronicles some of the most memorable moments in the history of golf. Through photographs taken over the last 40 years, Walter Iooss Jr. communicates the anticipation and tension, the focus and concentration, the heartbreak and victory of the world of golf. Augmenting Iooss's unforgettable images of players, tournaments, and courses is an introduction by best-selling sports writer Rick Reilly. From Arnold Palmer in his prime during the 1960s, to Jack Nicklaus, who stepped up to challenge Palmer and then dominated the sport through the early 1980s, to Tiger Woods, who exploded every record set by his predecessors, Iooss covered golf during its most exciting era. In telling photographs he reveals the intensity and austerity of Ben Hogan, the charisma and humor of Lee Trevino, the swagger of Chi Chi Rodriguez, and the compact style of Gary Player. Iooss was also one of the few photographers to turn his lens on the crowd, showing us the rapt attention of golf fans. Together, Iooss and Reilly capture the spirit and style of championship golf.

Golf (Book) Vaughan, Roger

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=joeyoconnor-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=1584790636&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

This lavishly illustrated book documents one hundred years of participation by American women in the legendary game of golf. Women quickly took to golf when it arrived in America in the late 1880s, and with enthusiasm and persistence established a foothold in a sport highly guarded by men. With revealing glimpses of early champions like Glenna Collett Vare, the Curtis sisters, and Marion Hollins, writer Roger Vaughan documents the firm foundation for women's participation in the game laid by these inspiring pioneers. The essence of this increasingly popular sport is captured through the recollections of, and interviews with, many champions, including Patty Berg, Babe Didrickson Zaharias, Peggy Kirk Bell, Louise Suggs, Kathy Whitworth, Betsy Rawls, Juli Inkster, and others. Glorious photographs of the players on and off the most famous courses show women in action. The changing fashions in women's golf attire, along with equipment designed for the female player, are featured as well. Opening with an insider's reflection on the sport by veteran Nancy Lopez, the book culminates with a look at today's exciting scene: the LPGA tour with its multimillion dollar purse; the competitive state of high school and college golf teams; and the expanding business of women's golf—from custom clubs to clothing and specially designed courses and clubhouses. This celebratory story is sure to stir any player's dreams of the perfect round of golf.

Great Golf (Book) Edited by Danny Peary and Allen F. Richardson • Foreword by Gary Player

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=joeyoconnor-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=158479464X&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Nearly 150 years have passed since H. B. Farnie's The Golfer's Manual was published in Scotland. In all that time there has been no comprehensive book that brings together the classic lessons of the great players and teachers of the game and presents that wisdom in their own words—until now. Here, in one elegantly designed and illustrated volume, the men and women who both pioneered and popularized the game of golf provide instruction in every aspect of the sport. From H. J. Whigham's unified swing theory (1897) to Ben Hogan's modern fundamentals, from Joyce Wethered on visualizing the shot to Lee Trevino on psyching out your opponent, the 127 original, idiosyncratic, and trailblazing essays in this book represent the very best instruction from 1857 to the present. Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, Harry Vardon, Butch Harmon, Bobby Jones, Nancy Lopez, Jack Nicklaus, Harvey Penick, Sam Snead, Dr. Bob Rotella, and Annika Sorenstam are among the 96 authors whose contributions are included in this must-have addition to every golfer's library.

about the author
Danny Peary is a sports historian and film critic who has written for newspapers, magazines, and television, and has published 18 books, including STC's 1,001 Reasons to Love™ Baseball.
