PHOENIX, AZ --March 21, 2012— Wonderland Publications will officially be launching the long awaited GOLF publication and art collection in Augusta, during Masters week in April, at a special event hosted by legendary golf photographer, Frank Christian -- who is also featured in the unique publication. A second reception during the Masters week is also planned to take place at the Augusta Museum of History.
The production of GOLF has taken four years to assemble and features hundreds of never seen before historical images and original art pieces. Only 2,100 of the collectable Captain's Edition will be made with just 1,800 available for sale in the USA and Canada.
GOLF celebrates the true spirit of the game. It is a story of connections, showing how the game has evolved through many different events and circumstances, since the dawn of civilization. Using rare and never seen before archive materials, as well as an array of original artwork the publication, folio and accompanying art collection takes the reader on an epic adventure of art and prose. The key aspect within the publication and the folio has been the completely unique design layout, which has already gained many plaudits from the worlds of golf and art respectively.
Ryder Cup winning captain, Colin Montgomerie is the resident professional on the publication, with the PGA, PGAs of Europe, IMG, Tony Jacklin CBE, David Leadbetter, Tom Doak, David Kidd, Ross McMurray and even Alice Cooper (to name just a few), all lending contributions to the story.
"We met Frank at last year's Par 3 Tournament in the UK," explained authors Paul Skellett and Simon Weitzman. "There was an immediate connection and friendship struck up with Frank Christian. Frank is known all over the world for his golf and celebrity photography, working in Augusta, with the PGA, as well as with music legends, Frank Sinatra and James Brown. He's lived a dozen lives by anyone else's standards and has been a real champion for what we have been trying to achieve with GOLF. It seemed fitting that we should stage the launch of the publication, folio and art collection with him during Masters week. Augusta has so much history, in every sense of the word and it's a very special place for a number of reasons."
Authors Skellett Weitzman have also created the giant trophy folio version of GOLF, limited to ten copies, a 102 pound art folio version of the production, featuring 150 editorialized art pieces telling the story of the spirit of the game.
The folio is a unique alternative to a traditional event trophy, as the authors and artists add editorialized art pieces to the story each time a tournament is won. The folios feature the world's rarest leather, with each one painstakingly handmade with the Royal binders, in London.
There is also a 150 print art collection that sit alongside the GOLF production, with plans at the end of 2012 to release a further collection of 120 unseen, limited edition prints. These prints are hand printed on museum grade archive papers and measure up to 42 inches in width. Smaller prints are also available from the collection that celebrates the true spirit of the game as it has evolved through the years.
There will be a small selection of GOLF Collector Edition books available for sale, with art and folio collections available to order.
The official launch and private drinks reception, which is by invitation only, will be held on Sunday, April 1st, 2012, from 5pm until 8pm, at Frank Christian's office, which is at 406 Eighth St. Augusta, Ga. 30901.
A second drinks reception is also planned for the evening of Wednesday the 4th, from 7pm until 9pm, at the prestigious Augusta Museum of History, 560 Reynolds Street, Augusta, GA 30901. The museum party is open to the media, press and Masters tournament ticket holders.
