Manchester, NH – The ongoing decline in private golf/country club membership has prompted a New Hampshire-based company to develop a new product and service. Evergreen Golf Member, LLC has introduced a unique, affordable, alternative way for individual golfers and corporate entities to hold private golf club membership.
“We have seen the strongest initial uptake on the corporate membership side, which is interesting,” Evergreen Golf Member founder and longtime golf course owner, Peter Harrity, said recently. “Wolf Run is a highly rated private golf club in Zionsville, Indiana, and came on board as one of our first client clubs. In just the last two weeks, they have taken in over $50,000 in corporate Evergreen membership deposits.”
Wolf Run owner, Stan Burton, is delighted with the results.
“The Evergreen Golf Member program is the perfect option for our corporate golf audience,” Burton said recently. “We’re very excited to offer it to local businesses as an affordable way for them to hold a corporate membership at Wolf Run. For the corporate golfer, it’s a justifiable membership with real tax benefits. For our club, it’s increased revenue with no discounting and no risk. It’s truly a win-win.”
In lieu of paying traditional dues, Evergreen Golf Members make an upfront deposit to the club. Members use the deposit value to pay for the rounds they play, the guests they host, the food and beverages they enjoy—and thereby have complete control over their spend.
According to the National Golf Foundation and other industry statistical gatherers, there were four million U.S. private golf/country members in 2000. Over the past dozen years, that number has dropped by half, to approximately two million in 2013. This precipitous drop reflects an estimated loss of more than three billion dollars in annual member dues revenue to the nation’s private golf clubs.
Significantly, however, the National Golf Foundation also reports that there are more than one million golfers with annual household incomes above $100,000, who want a private club experience. And there are large numbers of corporate/business golfers who also want to access private golf clubs.
“Golfers today are pressed for time and find it difficult to play a sufficient number of rounds to justify the cost of fixed rate annual club dues,” Harrity said. “It’s not that they can’t afford a private club membership. It’s more that they find it hard to get their value from it. Our unique program offers clubs a unique and highly attractive way to bring back former members and to attract new members. On the corporate side, it’s becoming clear that our system works very well for both the business golfer and the private club.”
Evergreen Golf Member, LLC is headquartered in Manchester, NH. The company has spent over a year developing proprietary software to help private golf clubs build their membership and realize prosperity in a challenging 21st century environment.
