
Fix Your Body, Fix Your Swing - Review by Joey O'Connor
Well I think I should start off by letting you know that I don't read. Well you know what I mean... I read... I just don't read... I'm not the type of guy to read a book on a rainy day or read a little bit before bedtime each night. All my life I have pretty much not been a fan of reading... maybe I don't have the patience? Maybe my mind is still running with future business ideas? Maybe I can't stop thinking about what I need to do tomorrow? I just don't know. But I will tell you what I did just find out... if I am interested enough in the subject matter, I end up reading the whole damn book in one sitting! haha.. and that is just what happened when I read 'Fix your Body, Fix your Swing - The Revolutionary Biomechanics Workout Program Used By Tour Pros" by Joey Diovisalvi and Steve Steinberg.
I was given a copy of the book by Tracy Nackel, TEN Marketing & Public Relations, at the PGA Merchandise Show back in January held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. "I don't know if you do book reviews but you might want to give this one a read even if you don't," Ms. Nackel told me as she handed me the book. "It might really do you some good." (hmm.. I wondered to myself what she really meant by that) I just nodded my head and told her I would look at it.
Ok,Ok, to be honest I didn't really think that I would ever read the book. I get handed products left and right all day long and I just can't get to all of them. I would rather spend my time testing the newest tour shaft or playing a round of golf with some new golf balls and some new clubs that were sent to me to try - hey, wouldn't you? Exactly! However, Ms. Nackel had always been extremely nice to me so I twisted my own arm, put my feet up on my desk, and started flipping through the book. Wow, I found myself turning back to page 1 and reading from the beginning! I am so glad that I read this book! If you are serious about improving your game, along with your fitness and wellness at the same time, you need to grab yourself a copy and get reading! It's a very easy read, and has a plan of attack on what to do after you finish it!
The book starts off with a few chapters on the basics that you need to know - who is Joey D, what is Biomechanics, how Biomechanics helps the golf pro, etc. Then the book goes on to not only explain how to make all of that work for you, but gives you some simple tests so that you can see for yourself how out of shape and tight your muscles and tendons are - ok, maybe you won't really find that out.. maybe that was just my findings..haha... you will even read about how Vijay Singh used Joey D's plan to make himself the #1 player in the world back in 2004 and you will see pictures of a just a few of the golf professionals that implement Joey D's plan - Jason Dufner, Jason Gore, Ryuji Imada, Pat Perez, Travis Perkins, Tom Pernice, Jr., John Rollins, Charlie Wi, and Tim Wilkinson. The book finishes up by breaking things down even more and giving "prescriptions" for cures - shoulders, upper body, lower body, pelvic, posture, balance, full body strength, coordination, and different scenarios of a 4 week plan to get you in shape.
